Essen raid pilot death 1943

Thu Jun 28 20:10:46 2001

I'm trying to find out about Sgt John Rathbone 1314304.

He was a pilot in 620 squadron and died on 26 July 1943.

Looking at the Bomber Command War Diaries (Middlebrook and Everitt, Penguin Books), this was the night 705 aircraft raided Essen.

Was he on that raid, and does anyone know the names of his crew? What happened?

Really appreciate your help.

I do feel a little guilty that I am taking far more than I am giving on this web site.

But I am learning. And maybe in a couple of years time I will be helping other folks out.

Don't know what I think about the planned changes to this site...all I know is, so far I have found it a great help! So, long may it continue.
