According to Fighter squadrons of the RAF by John Rawlings it was S/Ldr R B Cole DFC (Feb '45 - Apr '47) - who took over from S/Ldr K F Thiele DSO DFC and bar (Jan '45 - Feb '45) - who was shot down in his Tempest V. By the way Thiele was an ex-bomber pilot who had already completed at least one tour in Bomber Command. At this time 3 squadron was part of 122 Wing 2TAF.
