I know that this is a RAF board but does anyone know what DEMS RATINGS. I know ratings are men in the navy but what is DEMS

I am working in a memorial for a Chesapeake that crashed but this has stumped me I know that it must mean the men that were on the bus but the abbreviation is the first time I ve heard of it.

regards Scott

Further to my previous note,I know it seems strange but many soldiers served at sea the Maritime Regiments of the Royal Artillery and from many other units your question stirred memories,my brother who served with the Royal Army Ordnance Corp,Army Film Unit was on numerous ships gaining the Atlantic,Africa and SEAC stars in the process among his duties was to act as a supply number to the 6inch gun .The only ship he was upon that comes to mind was the Aquitainia this comes to mind because I happened to sail on her final trans-atlantic crossing where as a matter of interest the entertainer Gracie Fields stood on the dockside at Southampton and sang the Maiori song of farewell to her sister who was travelling on the ship.I forget the ship's name but he also took the first Austrailian POWs from Japan and Malaya back home.

Forgive my ramblings but you started it
