I am trying to track down details regarding the death of my wife's uncle, Norman Hayter. Norman was an Australian flying with the 138 Squadron who met his death on 17/8/43. I understand that his squadron was responsible for the delivery of agents and equipment.

Could anyone give some information about how we might find more details of his last flight?

Thank you in anticipation

Nick,

Flt/Sgt Hayter, pilot of Halifax JD179. This aircraft was on an S.O.E trip "Operation Bob 43/44. Took off from Tempsford for France, crashed near Ecorci. Crew were.......

Flt/Sgt N.W. Hayter, RAAF.

Sgt W.S. Davies.

Sgt F. Boles.

Sgt H.G. Ansell.

Sgt J.A. Hutchinson.

Flt/Sgt A.B. Robinson, RAAF.

Sgt G.F.W. Duckett.

Sgts Davies and Hutchinson are buried in Bernay Ste-Croix cemetery, the rest of the crew are buried Ecorcei churchyard.

I'm having a trip up to the Records office tomorrow to look at various other squadron Operations books, if i have enough time i'll try to copy the pages from 138sqdn ORB for the dates concerned.

Cheers.....Alan.
