I have finally got my three bits of paper(fathers record of service during WW2) from Innsworth....Now I am trying to locate information on the squadrons.

My only problem being, where ever I look, I cannot find many 4 figure squadrons listed....

Any ideas.....looking for squadrons like:

2707 (D) Sqn

2756 (D) Sqn

2851 Sqn

8 STT(a)...............and more, but wont bore you with the list. Would just be happy if someone could guide me to where I might find some info on these squadrons

Hi Dave

This might help you a bit.

Cheers...Chris

No.2707 Squadron of No.11 Group, was an R.A.F. Regiment anti-aircraft artillery unit based at R.A.F. Station Hawkinge, Kent.

No.8 School of Technical Training was based at R.A.F. Station Weeton, Lancashire. It taught conversion courses for Flight Mechanics and Flight Riggers.

I suspect the other two units were also R.A.F. Regiment A.A. squadrons, but disbanded by the latter part of 1944.

Hi Dave

No.8 S.T.T. had many different aircraft for instructional use.

I believe HFX is an abbreviation for Halifax as in Handley Page Halifax.

Cheers...Chris

2707 was formed from 707 Airfield Defence Squadron.

2756 was formed from 756 Airfield Defence Squadron

These units were formed January 1941 from a loose collection of Ground Gunners stationed at various airfields in southern UK

then renumbered in January 1942 when RAF Regiment was formed.
