I am having great dfficulty in understanding the workings of the new PROCAT Search Catalogue at PRO Kew particularly in regards to Air 27 Squadron ORB's on microfilm.

I happen to know that the 7 Squadron ORB for 1942 is Air27/99 but if you enter 7 Squadron as a Search Keyword and AIR as a location this reference does not appear.

I can get into the AIR27 references by entering that in the top right hand corner but you start at No 1 Sqdn and have to go all the way through to find what you want and if its 460 Sqdn you have a long way to go.

Perhaps someone could put me right but surely a general search should bring up all files.

Chris

Dear Chris,

without actually knowing the actual reason, I would say that not all file references are indexed yet (especially the ORB's).

Having said that, even if they were, PROCAT is a step backwards as it doesn't allow easy browsing of sequential entries like before.

Regards

Rod

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks that the new catalogue is harder to browse, bring back the old one.
