I am trying to research the service history of my father in law John Ransome who served in this squadron from 1942. From his military record we know he spent time at Warmwell, Haslemere, 1 radio school, Colerne and Turnhouse as well as HQ Ships Unit.

Can any one give me any pointers on where to look for more info as all my searches for 714(D) squadron are drawing a blank.

Many thanks

Nigel

I had a simular problem when researching my grandfathers service history. He served with 724(D) sqdn. I was informed that these were RAF Regiment Sqdns, and were later renumbered.

Maybe try seraching RAF Regiment sqdns Might help some

Many thanks for your reply.

This is a break through we needed. We will search along these lines now.

We also spoke to RAF Innsworth who suggested that we contact the Air Historical Branch at RAF Bentley Priory who have now also said that they will try to research for us.
