Hi Al

No. 12 R.N.Z.A.F. P.D. & R. Centre was located at R.A.F. Station Padgate,Lancashire. It was part of No. 54 (Training) Group.

Cheers...Chris

Hello Chris,

I se that you have delivered up one of those 'yes, but...' type answers!

No.12 (RNZAF) Personnel Despatch & Reception Centre was based at Brighton for most of its existence. It received RNZAF personnel inbound from Canada/New Zealand from c.May/June 1943. Between c.April & September 1944 it relocated temporarily to Padgate, presumably because all those Normandy-bound chappies took over most of the accommodation and facilities on the South Coast. On returning to Brighton c.September 44 the Centre appears to have remained in operation there until at least November 1945.

Prior to 12PDRC RNZAF personnel were received by 11PDRC (or just PRC?), also at Brighton, but only for a few months, and prior to 1943 at 3PRC at Bournemouth.

Cheers,

Errol

Hi Errol

Nice to hear from you. I was using an official RAF source dated October 1944 to support my answer. Looking at your detailed account, I reckon the unit must have relocated just prior to the publication date.

Cheers...Chris

Hello Chris,

In examining the postings of well over 3000 NZ aircrew despatched to Britain during WWII I've not come across any such personnel posted to 11PDRC later than June 1943 and during the period of RNZAF use it was never located at Padgate.

Incidentally, if I recall correctly, 3PRC, when it was at Bournemouth was also host to RAAF personnel. I don't know when the move to Innsworth took place, but it must have been sometime after 1942 as RNZAF personnel were not sent there.

Cheers,

Errol

Hi Errol

Sorry for the misinformation. I was half asleep when I read the documents. It is actually No. 11 R.A.A.F. P.D. & R. Centre at Padgate.

Well, it's off to bed much earlier tonight.

Cheers...Chris
