On 12 August 1944 at 11:45, Berlin’s air raid sirens rang out. According to German sources, a "real attack" followed. Does anybody know which planes attacked Berlin that day?

Thanks in advance

R. Goyat

Hi Richard

It would appear that Bomber Command ignored Berlin during the month of August in 1944.

Cheers...Chris

Thanks Chris.

But according to The Bomber Command War Diaries (Martin Middlebrook and Chris Everitt), Mosquitoes of Bomber Command flew several missions to Berlin in August 1944. But not on 12 August 1944.

As it seems that 8th Air Force was not involved either, the identity of the planes that made such a daylight raid on Berlin on 12 August 1944 remains a mystery.

Does anybody have an idea?
