Hi Kev,

I can't be 100% sure. However, F/O Cave-Browne arrived at 23 Squadron with a W/O Wescott as his nav. on the 9th Feb '43. The only mention in Peter Rudd's book is that F/O Cave-Browne FTR from Trapani, nothing to say who was navigating. There's no mention of W/O Wescott in the Squadron's Roll of Honour, so I'm not sure whether he's your man or not.

Cheers,

Neilly

Hi Neilly,

I do have the book by Peter Rudd and there is no mention who was navigating and that is why I asked but have managed to trace the name of the navigator. W/O Westcott F (and not Wescott)also mentioned on CWGC site. I thank you for your help in solving this matter.

Regards

Kevin

Cave-Brown's navigator was W/O Frederick Westcott (524645) aged 33, buried in Catania War Cemetery with Cave-Brown.

Hi Neilly,

Sorry to bother you again, but can you pls confirm that the a/c in which F/O Cornes S J was lost on the 21/02/43, was this flown by Flt Lt Neyder and if it was, did he survive to become a PoW since his name is not listed on the CWGC site.

Thanks once again for your help.

Regards

Kevin

F/Lt. Neyder and F/O Cornes were in DD793. Aircraft disappeared without trace but only Cornes in commemorated on the Malta Memorial as Marceli Neyder was Polish.
