LAST EDITED ON 31-Jul-05 AT 08:12 AM (GMT)[p]Could someone please tell me the forenames and number of one Flt. Lt. T. E. LAWRENCE, who joined 41 Squadron on 20 February 1945, and damaged a FW190 in the Rhein area of Germany on 28 March 1945?

I have no further data on this officer, and the LG, ORB, CWGC, 1960 AFL, Times, and Aces High are of no help. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

Without wishing to sound impertinent, are you sure you have the name right? There is no T E Lawrence listed in the January 1944 AFL, which I would expect to contain an officer who was a F/Lt the following year. There is a T Lawrence, but the AFL always includes all the initials so this is unlikely to be the same person.

Is it just coincidence that this is the name of Lawrence of Arabia, who never made it to a commissioned officer in the RAF and was killed in 1935?

Steve/Ian,

Than again he might have been 'Lawrence of New Zealand' (he, he), possibly NZ411494 Flt Lt Thomas Edward Lawrence, RNZAF, of Auckland is the many you are looking for Steve. He appears briefly in the third volume of the Official History of 'New Zealanders with the Royal Air Force', as a Spitfire pilot who flew from Corsica during the invasion of Southern France (no squadron given).

Cheers,

Errol

Not a problem at all. If I have the wrong initals and therefore the wrong man, then I want to know, too.

Thanks, too, Errol, sounds like your T. E. Lawrence might fit. Thanks for the tip.

Regards

Steve
