Like to add to my first entry:

Les Allison in his "They Shall Grow Not Old" on page 268 for F/O Earl D. Godfrey - 39167 (from Canada):

"Hudson failed to return from an anti-sub patrol. FOUR OF THE CREW, not Canadians, missing believed killed".

Ross McNeill in his "Coastal Command Losses - Vol.I" has two casualties for Hudson N7239, besides F/O Godfrey also F/Lt G.P. ROBINSON - 33282.

Henk.

Henk,

I can tell you that Walsh died aged 44 of natural causes at Northern Infirmary, Inverness.

The death of Thomas Thomson aged 19 is registered at Newmarket, his unit, 149S, was then based at Mildenhall.

Regards

DaveW

Gents,

The link given in the previous post leads to Earl Douglas Godfrey who was killed in a take of crash at Leuchars in Hudson N7239 04/09/39. The pilot, also killed, was Guy Percy Robinson.

Whilst looking for these casualties I came across the deaths of two more Leuchars based airman, Alner George Newton and Robert Glyn Thomas who's bodies were recovered from the River Tay sometime in August 1939. Their date of death is given as 06/06/39 at 9.30 am. Does anyone have any more info. please?

regards

DaveW

Flight JUNE 22, 1939

P/ O Alner George Newton, Sgt. George Harold Fawcett and

A/C. 1 Robert Glynn Thomas lost their lives in an accident which

occurred in Fifeshire, on June 6, to an aircraft of No. 61 Squadron.

So I believe we are looking for a Hampden loss on this date

Times has 'killed when bomber they were flying crashed into the sea off the Fife coast. Observers on the tower at Kinshaldy bombing range saw the machine crash into the sea off Tents Moor, a strip of moorland on the coast which is used as a nursery for the Forestry Commission and as a bombing range for RAF'
