What caused the death of Sgt Robert C. DUFF - 740368, buried Monifieth (or Barnhill) Cem., Angus.

Can't find his name listed in The Times and Flight archives.

Aircraft write-offs for this day:

Wallace II - K4346 - 8 BGS - overshot landing at Evanton.

DH.89A - G-AFEY - Scott A/W - crashed at Kirkwall.

Regards and thanks for your help.

Henk.

Hi Henk

Nothing to do with this Sgt but take a look at Amrit's post on RAF Barrage Balloons, it might amplify your earlier post on the subject of their crews.

Regards

Dick

Dave,

In Flight archives for DUFF:

Died of wounds or injuries received on active service.

Same remark for P/O William C. SCOTT - 42081, buried Wandsworth (Streatham) Cem., London County (UK3721), who died 20-3-1940.

Regards,

Henk.

Scott died during an operation for a ruptured spleen at Montrose Infirmary. I have no write offs for 8 FTS between 1 and 21 March, but perhaps an accident just the same.

I understand Dave that death after being wounded/injured on active service was not inextricably bound up with an aircraft write-off; I just gave it a try on the board.

Thanks for info on Scott.

Good weekend,

Henk.
