What caused the death of the following airmen, missing believed killed in action (Flight Global):

S/Ldr Maurice P. GURNEY - 73838, buried Malo-les-Bains Communal Cem., Dept. Nord (FR93), and

Cpl Charles V. MURTON - 352515, buried Dunkirk Town Cem., Dept. Nord (FR1).

It could be that they were killed aboard a ship torpedoed off Dunkirk and their bodies being washed ashore.

For same date also have two burials in Germany (see thread) and 28 names on the Runnymede Memorial (lost aboard a ship torpedoed off Dunkirk and aboard SS Abukir torpedoed near lightship 'Noordhinder' returning to UK from Ostend).

Regards and thanks for your help.

Henk.

Hello Henk,

You are correct in your assumption (micro-film).

S/Ldr Maurice P. GURNEY - 73838, (SS Abukir)

Cpl Charles V. MURTON - 352515, (SS Abukir)

Take a look here for details about SS Abukir.
