Tom,

Having steamed ahead with my project of converting (for my personal use, and only another 70,000 odd to go) the cwgc WW2 airforce death indexes to Excel databases I can give you the list of airforce personnel who died on this day but even excluding overseas deaths and those commemorated at Runnymede there are still a large number so I don't think that in this instance it helps much.

Tom,

Oxford V3879 crashed this day but ABS does not list a location for it. However 2 FTS was based at Brize Norton at this time and Gorrie's death is registered at Witney.

Tom,

From memory, I seem to recollect that Gorrie, after fighting in the Battle of Britain, became a flying instructor on Harvards Mk 1. He was a local farmer's son.

Harry.

Tom/Dave,

Don%B4t know whether V3879 was involved in a mid-air accident. I believe the aircraft hit an obstruction or anything else on Brize Norton at around 10.10 hrs.

Furthermore for this date - besides GORRIE - on my unaccounted list

AC2 James SW BALLANTYNE - 1342610

LAC John S. BENNETT - 746135

Sgt Henry DAWSON - 516339

LAC Pilot u/t Thomas R. GRAHAM - 1014960

AC2 Raymond NESBITT - 1195501

LAC Joseph W. SAVAGE - 1109070

Regards,

Henk.

Warning - thread hijack...

LG, are you generally open to queries about losses on specific days?

I'm after any Runnymede losses on 6 November 1942, especially if there is a relatively obscure unit involved...

Sorry for the hijack.

Many thanks LG, it does indeed help.

One final question if I may - is there any chance there are Runnymede losses for this day which you haven't "got to" yet, or is this likely to be the sum total?

Thanks again, and once more apologies for the thread hijack.

Nope, that's the lot. I have now only to covert the 1944 airforce deaths to an excel file - 32,651 souls and I shall have converted all from 1939 - 47.

Anyone know what happened to Esther Sex, Womens ATA 21/8/1945?
