"'Unaccounted' airmen - 5-6-1940"

What caused the death of following airmen, both died of wounds or injuries received on active service (Flight Global):

LAC Frank BLANCHARD - 341016, buried Romsey Cem., Hampshire (UK4908), and

AC2 William J. SMITH - 812204 - 500 Sqn (Ansons/Detling, Kent), buried Sittingbourne and Milton (Sittingbourne) Cem., Kent (UK4095).

Aircraft write-offs for this day:

Anson I - N5112 - 17 OTU - crashed in forced landing near Towcester, Northants. (already have the name of Sgt M.H. FARMER, who survived).

Blenheim I - L1232 - 5 OTU - overshot landing at night Worcester (already have as a casualty Sgt Thomas L. ARMSTRONG - 745102).

Henk,

No luck with these two, of the others you asked about on 8/4/41

Morris aged 27 at Witney

Ballantyne aged 19 Hull

Bennett aged 36 at Durham

Dawson aged 30 at Andover

Graham aged 23 at Barrow S

Nesbitt no record in England Wales or Scotland

Savage aged 20 at Holderness.

Hi Henk

Warner's "Blenheim" records the accident to L1232 but has Armstrong as flying solo. Chorley Vol 7 has the Anson accident and gives only the name of Farmer, but the a/c was airborne for a W/T exercise involving taking bearings with the loop aerial and almost certainly had others on board.
