Hi Kevin,

I can't give you an exact answer, but.... V 5460 was a 139 Sqd Blenheim, it was lost 3rd June 1941. I can't find V 5860 list to 139 Squadron.

W/c Pepper, was in charge of 226 Sqd., Malta when he was killed.

Cheers,
Neilly

Hi Neilly,

Thank you for your info. Graham Warner in his book "The Bristol Blenheim" mentions that V5460 was lost on the 03/06/41 and V5860 lost on the 08/06/41 both from 139 squadron. He also states that W/Cdr Pepper was killed in V5460 while C.Shores in his book "The Hurricane Years" states that he was killed in V5860 'J' and there is not mention of V5460.

V5460
Pilot - W/Cdr Pepper +
Obs - Sgt Hyde +
W.OP - Sgt Pickford - PoW

V5860
Pilot - Sgt C Matthews +
Obs - P/O P Prosser +
W.OP - Sgt G Mason +

I personally think the crew of Matthews was not Malta related.

Would appreciate any help to try and sort this out.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

My mistake V 5860 was on 139 Squadron charge & lost June '41.

The only info. I have on W/c Pepper is: He was killed in September 1941, carrying out an ultra low anti shipping strike. He was killed when his Blenheim was caught in a bomb blast. He was in command of 226 Sqd.

Cheers,
Neilly
