"MBE FOR RAF TECHNICAL OFFICER"
This is probably one for Hugh. In late 41/early 42 David Basil Gerald Miles was awarded an MBE as a junior technical officer in the RAF, probably a FO or A/FL. Anyone have any clues as to the background to the award. Regards, Terry

He was awarded the MBE 1 January 1942 in what was known as the New Year Honours List. I have, with the help of several others (notable Steve Brew, Joss Leclerq and Tom Thorne) been assembling and transcribing numerous "unpublished" citations and hope to report progress shortly (as per the DFC list previously posted on the Research Materials side of this Forum). However, as of this time I have not obtained copies of the documents relevant to the 1942 New Year Honours List.
In this case, the most likely AIR 2 files at Kew will be
AIR 2/6268 - New Year Honours List, 1942: higher awards. This most likely deals with awards at the level of OBE and higher.
AIR 2/6269 - New Year Honours List, 1942: non-operational commands lower awards. This may have what you seek.
AIR 2/6368 - New Year Honours List 1942 1941-1943. Again, a good candidate for the particular citation you seek.
If you want to copy any of these files and provide me with a CD of said copy, I will do my best to transcribe same and share as broadly as possible.
