|P/O H. K. Hamilton RCAF, F/O W. Hamilton RAF – 247 Sqn||Hi all,
Two Hamiltons served with No. 247 Squadron during 1942
The first Hamilton (RCAF):
24.08.1942 - P/O H. K. Hamilton from 56 OTU to 247 Sqn,
18.09.1942 - accident - f/l Hurricane AG240 (burnt out) Cheriton Cross near Exeter, taken to SSQ and than to Torquay with a fractured olecranon, injury described as moderate
14.12.1942 - from N.F.S. Exeter to 245 Sqn
12.01.1943 - from 245 Sqn to 53 OTU for Spitfire refresher course
24.03.1943 - F/O H. K. Hamilton to 401 Sqn
10.05.1944 - F/O H. K. Hamilton (J9934) Spitfire IX, MJ385, bailed out N of St. Omer (PoW)
The Ottawa Journal, 16 Jun 1944, Friday:
Missing after Air Operations - Hamilton, Henry Kent Flt. Lt. Toronto
But a The Lethbridge Herald’s (16 Jun 1944, Friday) typesetter omitted the headline „Missing“ and F/L Hamilton and other men were „Previously reported missing – now reported killed on active service“. An unpleasant mistake…
Without doubt R102695 Henry Kent Hamilton (J9934) flew with 247 Sqn.
(P/O 22.1.1942, F/O 10.10.1942, T/F/L 22.1.1944)
The second Hamilton (RAF):
24.06.1941, (w.e.f.) - P/O W. Hamilton from 54 OTU to 410 Sqn, 04.04.1942 commanding „A“ Flight
04.05.1942 - F/O W. Hamilton to 247 Sqn from 151 Sqn, (nearly a year with 410 Sqn)
09.1942 – to 536 (Turbinlite) Sqn. (Disbanded on 25 January 1943)
16.05.1943 - F/L W. Hamilton (63095) KIA, 604 Sqn, Beaufighter VI, V8554 (F/O J. R. Coates)
I am not sure 1001915 William Hamilton (63095) flew with 247 Sqn. Can anybody help?
(P/O 23.3.1941, F/O 23.3.1942, F/L 23.3.1943)
