Details Caught fire and dived into ground yazagyo Burma. Curly Keech flew on another strike. Keech never pulledout of its dive and the distinctive oily burst of the Vengeance impacting later showed up in photographs of the strike. Both crew members killed instantly. Possibly due to AA Fire from the ground. [wikitree]The operation of March 4, second op of the day, targets a concealed Japanese camp in the jungle west of Kontha. Four waves of six aircraft from 84 and 110 Squadrons take part in the morning mission, targeting both a camp and headquarters at Pinlebu on the MV river. Hurri-bombers of 34 and 42 Squadrons also fly on the op. The loss of Keech and his gunner, Watkins, in the afternoon mission, is possibly due to anti-aircraft fire, the aircraft exploding during the dive. [ORB]. 12 vengeance took off to attack target in afternoon. The first operational casuality happened, when ac piloted by WO Keech, and WO Erick Watkins as WOaG was seen to blow up in a dive at approximately 5000 feet. the aircraft was immediately enveloped in flames and pieces of ac and panels began scattering in the air. the aircraft crashed followed by explosion leaving little doubt as to the fate of the crew. Keech was a US citizen who joined the RCAF
