Details Not a write off - but a bale out of crew member NAA File: GABRIELSON, Ronald Eric - (Pilot Officer); Service Number - 407150; File type - Casualty - Repatriation; Aircraft - Vengeance 2 AN828; Place - Kumkhirgram, India; Date - 6 April 1944. [ORB]. A formation of four aircraft bombed the village of Tamanthi. Plt Offr B Finnie returned 1 hour and 22 min after take off having seperated from the formation in cloud and running into a severe thunder storm. During his experience in the storm he prformed a loop fully bombed up. unfortunately his back seater P/O R E Gabrelson was either thrown out of the aircraft or had released teh safety belt and baled out. He was not there when the pilot regained control. He was posted as missing.. GAbrielson was recovered on April 9. He was at TAMEGLON Village RF8683 and made his way back. He ran into Nagas and the 'white princess' - A complete report exists.

John Frederick Ellis, No.84 SquadronHello, The aircraft involved in the above incident was Vengeance III FD105 'U'. An account can be found here: The Air Battle of Imphal Franks,Norman London:William Kimber,1985. pp.180-1 & 216. Franks mentions (p.181); 'Ellis was presumed to be in Japanese hands, but nothing was heard of him and later his death was officially presumed.' Finnie was involved in a similar incident on 6/4/1944 (Vengeance II AN828), with AUS407150 F/O (W.Op./Air Gnr.) Ronald Eric GABRIELSON RAAF.
