Details aborted raid on Buthidaung in bad weather, crashed on landing at Chittagong due to burst tyre, caught fire; Major Viney SAAF, W/O J. Barry, and P/O J. Volners escaped. Six aircraft led by MAJOR VINEY were airborne to strike on BUTHIDAUNG. After experiencing very bad weather, it was decided to alnd at Chittagong. Fg Offr Webster and Sgt Lancaster turned back, about 20 miles form Chittagong. Webster landed at Base but Sgt Lancaster is missing with the crew. Major Viney landed at Chittagong but bust the starboard main tyre and crashed. The aircraft catching on fire and eventually all the bombs exploded. All crew uninjured. The remaining aircraft landed back at base.
