|430114 - Unaccounted airmen - 14-1-1943||155 Sqn (Agartala, India) lost Mohawks BT471 and BT472 14-1-1943 in a collision (control lost in cloud) at Borcapur. At least one of the airmen, F/Sgt (Pilot) Adam D.S. BOULT - 1078250, was killed and lies buried in the Maynamati War Cem., Bangladesh.
Was he on BT471 or BT472 and who was the other pilot involved ?
Regards and thanks for your help.

|430114 - Unaccounted airmen - 14-1-1943||Henk,
The most up-to-date account that I have, is as follows:
Thursday, 14 January 1943.
On the day on which 11 Squadron commenced operations in the area, two Mohawks were lost when escorting other Blenheims to Magwe. En route Flt Sgt G.B. Potter (BT471) and Sgt A.D.S. Boult (BT472) of 155 Squadron collided and crashed to their deaths.
Air War For Burma.
Gerry Beauchamp, in his 'Mohawks Over Burma', gives an account of this incident. He quotes the wrong date (11-1-1943) and much of the rest of the information is conflicting. It is best disregarded.

|430114 - Unaccounted airmen - 14-1-1943||From my 'For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume Two: FAtes 1943-1998)':
Thu 14 Jan 1943
Operational flight over Magwe, Burma
155 Squadron, RAF (Agartala, India - 169 Wing, 224 Group)
Mohawk IV AX893 - took off at 1030 with five others for Dohazari, prior to undertaking a sortie over Burma. After flying south for 10 minutes they found the thick cloud, at 300 feet on take-off, was down to 50 feet. The aircraft broke formation to climb through it, but AX893 and another (BT471 or BT472) were not seen again by their companions. Believed to have collided, both pilots had crashed and died, the latter being found by the Army in his wrecked Mohawk the following day. It was the 28th, however, before the wreckage of AX893 was located some 12 miles SE of Comilla. The pilot’s funeral took place early the following morning at the New Zealand Baptist Mission Cemetery at Agartala, but he was later reinterred at Comilla.
Pilot: 785062 Flt Sgt George Bellenger POTTER, RAFVR - Age 26.
A letter dated 1 March 1943 from 155 Sqn's CO letter found on an RNZAF file about Potter confirms Potter's aircraft as AX893.

F/Sgt BOULT not yet in my files, however Errol Martyn confirms in his "Four Your Tomorrow" Vol.2, page 51, that 155 Sqn AX893 collided 14-1-1943 with 155 Sqn BT472. (12 miles SE of Comilla).
Have on Halifax W7844 also as casualty: F/Sgt (WOp/Ag) Thomas J.G. THOMAS - 615005.
Groundcrew killed were all 5 MU.
Please confirm F/Sgt THOMAS.

|14 Jan 1943 19430114||Hi Henk
I have FYT but A-B states BT471 collided with BT472 and AX893 broke up in cloud with no mention of a collision, thats the dilemma
The problem I have with Thomas is that all the others are registered in Chippenham but I cannot find Thomas anywhere in the Eng/Wales registers, which is why I didn't include him, can anyone else confirm his registration district
