|W/O F Hadcroft, PoW||Kevin,
Found this ellsewhere on the internet, may be your man:
According to Gary,s history on 178 Sqdn 3 Liberators were lost 19/20 March 1944. I found reference to two of those A/C namely BZ948 and EV812 both listed as lost on 19 March but no mention of a third aircraft. Does anyone have the names of the crews of these 3 aircraft.
This is related to F/Sgt Waller in a previous post.
Re BZ948. Details from Air Historical Branch RAF, MI5 Evader Report for W/O Carter D. C. and personal research. Crew were Blake S.K. (Pilot), Lieut Lugg E.D. (Pilot), Sgt Hadcroft F. (Air Gunner), W/O Kent W.M.(Air Gunner), F/Sgt Turner D.M. (Air Gunner), Sgt Hooton C. (Flight Engineer), W/O Carter D.C. (Nav/W/O Cunningham T. (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner).
Crew bailed out over Albania on return from raid over Plovdiv, Bulgaria after two engines failed due fuel exhaustion.
Carter and Cunningham evaded and finally left Albania with members of the British Military Mission on 22 May 44. Turner was shot whilst apparently trying to escape and is buried in the Tirana Park Cemetery, Albania. Remainder of the crew captured and became POWs.
