Loss of Lancaster LL797Hello Andy, Back in September, 1943, the then, AUS416501 F/Sgt Jack Pierce HUTCHINSON RAAF, and CAN R/148514 Sgt Leonard Earl GOODKEY RCAF, were involved in the following incident:- 6-7 September 1943 12 Sqn. Lancaster I ED392 PH-D2 Op: Munchen. Took off 1956 Wickenby. Heard on W/T at 2015 stating that an engine had failed. Subsequently, the Lancaster came down in the sea off Spurn Head. The two airmen who died are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
