Liberator of 178 sq lost 7.5.44 RomaniaI can add that Liberator EV841 'H' of 178 Squadron, one of just 8 Liberators operating that night, was shot down by Oblt Bainhiller of II/NJG6 and crashed at Belciug, Romania. On all matters relating to the night bombing of Romania, see Patrick Macdonald's excellent 'Through Darkness to Light' (Pentland Press, Edinburgh). Martin Bauer: 5 11./NJG6 B-24 Belciug/SW Bukarest (TL-7): 320 m. 01.06 Hptm. Bauer was the Staffelkapitän of 11./NJG6, the Liberator was his 5th confirmed victory. 178 Sqn Losses.Hello, Have just received a copy of " Bombers over Sand and Snow" On page 351 there is a list of a/c losses for the squadron. "1943 - Halifax - 1 ; Liberators - 5. 1944 - Liberators - 27. 1945 - Liberators - 4". Were these the a/c lost ? Confirmation, corrections and additions welcome.
