Pilot Officer Francis Michael Scandiffio was serving with No. 21 Ferry Control based at Mauripur, India when he was killed in a flying accident. He died in the crash of a Republic Thunderbolt Mk. I, s/n HD163, while ferrying it from No. 320 Maintenance Unit based at Drigh Road, Karachi, India. His intended destination had been R.A.F. Station Yelahanka, India, but ran into foul weather and flew into the crest of a mountain near Gadra Road. The log book is quite interesting, with minor notes everywhere on other aircraft losses of the Ferry Control.. names, places, incidents.
There is one entry on the last page - in the month he died that does not make sense.
The entry reads "Twin JET Vampire" Bopal to Kalyan - 627mph. and for July 1944!
