Details 12 aircraft took off at 0730 hrs with 135 Sqdn for a sweep over Mingaladon. Two of our ac returned early on tech grounds. W/O H C Edwards crashed in enemy territory after his engine caught fire. During mission W/O webster observed that Edwards aircraft was on fire and called him up on R/T advising him to bale out. Edwards did not reply but lost height and it seemed he had decided to make a forced landing. His aircraft hit the ground, which was waterlogged and overturned completely smashing a wing. It is considered unlikely that the pilot could have survived., although the fire appeared to have gone out. The position was given as NE of Pathway Map REf UP6570. W/O Webster circled the area four times and it appeared to be deserted. (1945-05-12) News reached that Edwards was released from Rangoon Jail where he was a POW. sufferred a broken leg.
