Details Engine cut on firing practice; ditched. In late afternoon F/O G R Halbeard flying as No.2 to S/Ldr Mowat on shadow firing practice had an engine failure when 50ft above the sea. He got up to 500fet and then had to ditch his aircraft four miles out. He got out and the aircraft snak within 15 seconds of hitting water. F/O Halbeard kicked off his cloths and boots and after using his long range tank as a buoy, swam towards a sampan and was taken aboard. The high speed rescue launch picked him up having been ftetched by Sqdn Ldr Mowat. Halbeard none the oworse after some 15 min in the water.
