Sgt F R P Burgess 1162683 RAFVRHello RoWe, as Dave has pointed out he was killed in Anson K6248. One thing to point out is that the aircraft was in fact flying from Cranage, not Shawbury as Terence Hill states. Some further info from the aircraft accident card and the ORB: The accident card: “Pilot opened throttle too late after attempting forced landing. Tail of aircraft struck tree and crashed into wood.” The ORB states: “Anson K6248 crashed at Rednal near Oswestry, whilst on a Navigation training flight, involving deaths of entire crew, viz F/O Padfield, P/O Minnet and Sgt’s Burgess, Hewish and Hill.” There is an AVIA file for the accident also which states: The accident is suitably summed up in the following findings of the Court: The pilot failed to see and/or negotiate a large oak tree whilst carrying out a dummy run for a precautionary landing practice. Remarks of Officer Commanding: Concurs. Remarks of Air Officer Commanding: The evidence, although conflicting, tends to support the fact that the undercarriage was lowered. Therefore considers that the pilot was, for some obscure reason, attempting to land. RoWe, can i just ask if you have any local information on this airman? Perhaps you could send me an email at tomthorne83ATyahooDOTcoDOTuk Cheers, Tom ....Read More.thorne83 on 23rd December 2007 05:32:44
AiB AVIA Class ReportsThe TNA index for AVIA 5 has a number of errors in the transcription of serial numbers that prevent easy searches.
