Details Aircraft was hit by ammunition exploding on ground. He was obliged to forceland in hostile terriotry and was taken POW. Somehow he escaped from his captors and returned to his squadron four days later. Wing attacked TAUNGLEDAW. the squadron arrived last and found teh village already ablaze in teh center where a column of smoke was rising to 4000 feet. On the second run, Key, Blue 4 broke away form teh target and headed north. He was not seen untill he called over the RT to say that his aircraft was on fire and he was about to forceland on the south side of the Irrawady. He gave no pinpoint and the remaining three aircraft in the section were unable to ifind him. The next day the arircraft was found N of TALINGAN, on south bank of river. it was unbroken and unburnt, no sign of pilot. 0650 - 1000 hrs. Key awarded the Military Medal in May 1945
