1941 Unaccounted Airmen Database ReconciliationHello Here is the first batch of the December 1941 UK casualties: Richard Allan ERRINGTON (R/81422) - his R.C.A.F. Service File records that he was killed in Botha L6478, on a ferry flight from Brough to No. 4 Air Observers School at West Freugh. He flew down to Brough with F/O Harry Wilbur Orville Palethorpe in Botha L6530, and they each picked up a Botha. Errington was instructed to follow Palethorpe, who was flying Botha L6180, back to West Freugh. By the time they reached Port William the weather had deteriorated and when Palethorpe landed at West Freugh, there was no sign of Errington. A member of the R.O.C. saw the Botha at 17.20 1 mile south of Kirkowen, flying at 50 feet. The aircraft circled in the rain and thick mist, as if lost. The R.O.C. log reported the Botha heading North West at 17.25. A final witness saw the Botha at about 17.30 come out of the cloud at a steep angle near Glen Luce, and hit the ground. Joseph WALKER (863295) - the Portsmouth Evening News of December 4th 1941 carried an announcement of his death: WALKER - Joseph, of 71, Wesley Grove, Copnor. On December 2nd, at Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, aged 52 years. Late R.S.M. Royal Engineers (lately served with the R.A.F.), after an illness patiently borne. Anthony James Douglas GLAISHER (902571) - the Thanet Advertiser of December 12th 1941 reported that he was found dead on the sands at Ramsgate, having sustained fatal head injuries by falling 30 feet from the top of the pier. It reports that he had told his comrades that he was going to take his own life, but then told them it was joke. The Coroner said that he had left several letters, and returned a verdict of "suicide while the balance of the mind was disturbed." Allen Edwin NEW (1199077) - the Coventry Evening Telegraph of December 8th 1941 reported that he was found hanging at his home in Coventry whilst on leave. He was taken to hospital but was found to be dead. Joseph Henry RYALLS (1239961) John Edgar MAYO (1319848) and Rudolf GRZEGORZ (P/0919) - Anson N9886 See: http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?4845-LAC-John-Edgar-MAYO-RAFVR-Died-6-12-1941 Vernon Dumaresq Bowden MARTIN (R/74454) - his R.C.A.F.
