Details DG-L' Missing on training flight. Three sections of Spitfires took off to carry out cover to DCs. About 20m SE of base the formation went into a hidden CM cloud and was broken up. FS McCormick half rolled and went down. One machien was inverted, and went down, two aircraft failed to return, the pilots being Fg offr Dalrymple and Fg Sgt McCormick. The others landed at approximately 11.45. W C Sutton interogated the surviving pilots. 7.9.44. Fg offr Dalrymple arrived back having baled out on findint his aircraft out of control. He too was suffering form ehaustion and leech bites. He landed on a hill and commenced waling east along a gully. This became a stream in which he remained for one and a half days, unable to climb because of steep sides. He slept on aledge at night. on the third day he met two natives who took him to the village. He stayed there that night and the folloiwng day was guided back to the aerodrome.
