Aircrew details F Sgt Howling
Details Engine cut during aerobatics, abandoned near Giritale tank. While flying FL-T, on aerobatics, F Sgt Howling reported over R/T that his motor had cut and he was baling out. He left the ac at 800ft and fell in branches of a tree and sustained negligible injury. He cut himself free, regained terra firma and set out through the jungle. After following game tracks for an hour, he sighted a native and persuaded him to guide to the main road, where he was picked up and brought back by Lt Cder Reynolds who himself later took up a Tigermoth in an endeavor to lcoate the crashed aircraft, but only succeded in locating remains of the parachute. Four ac of the Squadron have been searching the area previously with no avail. Wreckage of aircraft was found on 4.9.44 by the natives. the EO visited the wreck and its a very badly mangled aircraft now
