Details engine failed crashed Kalewa airstrip . Whilst on a Kalewa patrol this afternoon Poppleton had engine trouble and made a crash landing on a 500 yard Kutcha Strip. The aircraft was seen to catch fire immeidately on hitting the ground and it is feared that this pilot has little chance of survival. The next day two pilots took a Tigermoth to the strip to recover remains, but found to their delight that Poppleton had got away with a cut forehead and a burnt arm and is now with a hospital at INBAUNG. [F541] 1600-1745 Patrol. AT 1630 was seen to attempting to forceland at Kalewa light strip. No reply was received on R.T. he was seen to overshoot crash and burst into flames immediately. Before the ac crashed, there was a trail of white smoke issuing from tail but engine did not appear to be on fire. Report recvd next day that he was flown within 15 min of crash to the CCS via a Stinson.
