Details Mingaladon - aircraft BL and overturned .[ORB} 20 sorties today on the CAb Rank - the last section received fire FO F McWatt and F S M Hardy. They called upon two of 607 who were carring bombs for direct hits. On the way home F Sgt Hardy ahd trouble with his undercarriage adn was last seen heading east. He is reported missing but there is every chance he is safe. [13th] FLT Kershaw led a four ac searc h for missing spitfire and located the crash approximately 8 miles E of base. aircraft was badly damaged but no sign of pilot.. Hardy walked in at 1100 hrs into the GCI station 2 miles N of the strip. Minor injuries, and Leech bites. It apepars his engine cut and he could not raise his undercarraige prioro to the forced landing. This caused more extensive damage than woudl have been the case with a belly landing. A lucky pilot!
