Aircraft Accident / Loss Entry

Date of Crash 18 Aug 44 Aircraft Name Spitfire VIII Serial Number MD397
Unit 152 Sqdn Operating Airfield Imphal Country
Aircrew details WO Ronald John Henry ADCOCK*
Details Cr while attacking ground targets http://www.152hyderabad.co.uk/html/your_memories.htm "During August the Boys got in hours doing Strafes against well-hidden Jap ground positions but we lost another pilot. 'Addy', one of us new Boys. On August 19th F/Sgt Adcock, a wiry Aussie from the Outback, overdid a strafing run and spread his aircraft and himself all over his target. 221 Group's AOC sent us a message to the effect that a few scruffy Japs were not worth the loss of a Pilot and Aircraft." . [ORB}WE lost WO Adcock today during a Rhubarb of the Mytha Valley. He took off with FO Francis and at 1010 FO Francis heard him say on the RT 'I have found a barge'. A few seconds later he said. I have hit a tree, I am trying to make base but dont think i will manage it. FO francis at once searched the area for signs of him and 1015 saw a flash of red flame and a second afterwards an aircraft in flames in some trees about 3m S of Kalemyo just west of Mytha rriver. He searched for signs of life or a parachute but saw nothing.
