77 Sqn Whitley Forced Landing 13/14 -7-1939 Crew Details Pre-War baleoutsI have a long query from my pre-war bale outs for the following 3 names in 1939 which I am 99% sure I have solved today. The names from around June/July 1939 were Student Pilot R Walsh RAF AC2 E Gutteridge RAF AC1 J Briggs RAF The clue to solving this was working out Student Pilot R Walsh RAF could have been Sgt Richard Walsh #56442 of 77 Sqn killed on 11/11/1939 inWhitley N1364 I downloaded the 77 Sqn ORB and found 77 Sqn: ORB "13/14 - 7-1939 - Squadron took part in 2nd Phase of Regional Exercises. S/Cdr executed a night forced landing due to engine failure. 3 of crew making parachute descents. All uninjured" - Driffield, Yorks Can anybody please Identifty the Whitley involved and location of force landing, would S/Cdr been Station Commander? who may have been Group Captain A. Lees, D.S.O., A.F.C ? or maybe Sqn/Commander: W/C C R Strudick? Now all I need to do is ID AC2 E Gutteridge and AC1 J Briggs from 77 Sqn Thanks Paul ....Read More.paulmcmillan on 21st January 2014 04:00:50
