Many thanks Brian[/QUOTE] From my 'For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services Since 1915 (Vol One: Fates 1915-1942)': Sat 23 Sep 1939 Training Command Formation practice 1 Service Flying Training School, RAF (Netheravon, Wiltshire - 23 Group) Harvard I P5791 - collided with another of the Schoolís Harvard Is (P5792), both of which caught fire and crashed at Collingbourne Kingston, 5 miles NE of the airfield. At least three airmen died, the New Zealander and one other being buried at Netheravon. Pilot: Midshipman (A) John Clutha CASEY, RN, of HMS Pembroke (FAA) - Age 21. Casey was the first New Zealand member of the Fleet Air Arm to lose his life in WWII, albeit in a RAF aircraft. In carrying out an attack at 1420 on a towed target at 1200-1300 feet N7105 turned to starboard then tightly to port. In executing the latter manúuvre the Harvard side slipped, rolled over and spun into the sea off Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire. Both pilots are buried at Llanengan, Caernarvonshire.
