No.49 Squadron, 27/28 February 1943Excellent - I was wondering if the "Sergeant Webb" described in the award recommendation was Sergeant Maurice Gordon Webb (R101741), Mentioned in Despatches, 2 June 1943, and the connection is now made. "Davies" now translates into "W.A. Davies" and the same London Gazette of 2 June 1943 confirms the Mention in Despatches and provides his service number (937521) - and that leads finally to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission record of him as being killed as a Flight Sergeant (and still with No.49 Squadron) on 18 August 1943 - Peenemunde again. Thanks for the help in tracing this thread. ....Read More.HughAHalliday on 10th August 2011 10:52:21
