John Foreman in "1941-The Turning Point, Pt 1", records Watling's loss as "Crashed near Deal in mist" in Spitfire R6924.There is no indication as to what brought the a/c down resulting in the crash.
However in Air Britain Serials R6924 is recorded as "Swung after night landing and hit steamroller at Fairwood Common" whilst with 53 OTU on 26/1/43. They record 92 Sqn as among the previous"owners". The 2 incidents are not incompatible if the a/c was repaired after the crash that resulted in Watling's death

Two Spitfires of 92 Sqn, including Bill Watling in R6924, took off from Manston in the morning of 7/2/41 on a weather test. Visibility was extremely bad and at 1145 hrs a message was received from Hawkinge that one of the Spits had crashed into a hill near Deal. Watling,who was twenty years of age, was killed instantly. He had been with 92 Sqn since July 1940 and had been shot down and badly burned during combat on 9 September, returning to 92 at the end of October 1940.

So if anyone will be not able to provide you particular serial you can make your try and check each of these serials which may fit - I suppose it will be not so many as some of them will be so old (Kxxxx) and some of the last so new to fit the date.
