LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=82260 has following: Hurricane P3807 of 9 FTS had engine cut on approach; bellylanded Babdown Farm; DBR. 1285910 LAC L.W. DANIEL - date 27th May 1941. (27-5-41). Same date in Air Britain for P3807. CWGC has for 1285910 LAC L.W. DANIEL date of death 25th July 1941. (25-7-41). What's in the Death Register ? Regards, Henk.
DaveW/Paul, Is "Wings over Gloucestershire" (LAC Daniell - Hurricane P3807 - 27th May) in error and was he - as mentioned by you Paul - killed 25th July on Master T8547, 1 mile W of Morton, Glos. LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910Thanks to Ken, for supplying me with a copy of the Hullavington ORB for the date 25/7/41 On this, the ORB extract just says 25/7/41 No. 1179118 LAC. YEATES. E.C (Pupil) and 1285910 LAC DANIELL W. (Pupli) were killed as a result of a Flying Accident No. 1267845 LAC LAING-MEASON. G. (Pupli) was killed as a result of a Flying Accident Unfortuatley, no serials - though as Ken says in the month 3 Masters and 1 Hurricane were written off The ORB is written as IF YEATES and DANIELL were in the same aircraft. Firstly, can some kind person identify the death registration districts of LAC Ewart Charles Yeates LAC Leonard Wescott Daniell and LAC Gilbert Laing-Meason to see if any of them could hev been killed in the 'same accident' Baring in mind the doubts over the loactaions of both Hurricane and the Master, could Gilbert Laing-Meason or Ewart Charles Yeates have been in the Master T8547 of 9 FTS - Flown into Ground 1 m W of Morton (or Moreton), Glos. on 25.7.41 ? Thanks Paul ....Read More.paulmcmillan on 29th September 2008 03:43:03
LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910Have problems following the discussion. I'm in the supposition that LAING-MEASON prob. was on N7992 (26-7-1941); DANIELL "and" YEATES both on T8547 (25-7-1941). Who may undeceive me ? Regards, Henk. ....Read More.Henk Welting on 29th September 2008 05:57:43
LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910Henk - Maybe - It does look to me that DANIELL "and" YEATES were both on T8547 (25-7-1941). - But the death registration district does NOT Support this - They deaths were BOTH registered in the same place what gets me is that DANIELL is a real mystery, we have him on a Hurricane crash in MAY and Killed on Active Service as well! ....Read More.paulmcmillan on 29th September 2008 06:04:10
LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910Gents, I now have Daniell's cert. which gives the place of death as Quarry Field, Manor Farm, Norton, Malmesbury. I wonder if Wings over Glos and AB Crash List have erred in recording 'Morton' as the site of the crash of Master T8547, when it should have read 'Norton'(in Wilts). A further coincidence is the mention of 9 FTS as the holding unit for this Master, the same as for the Hurricane mentioned earlier in association with Daniell. I also note that Yeats and Daniell have the same page and volume reference in the death register at Chippenham, sub district Malmsbury. Does anyone else have an opinion? regards DaveW ....Read More.davew on 24th October 2008 07:27:08
LAC (Pilot u/t) L.W. DANIEL - 1285910I have been transcribing Malmesbury's ARP Contol Room log. This item confirms the conclusions reached; 25.7.41 Inspector Edwards reports own aeroplane crash at 18.30 hrs. Situation:- Quarry Norton, adjoining Foss Rd, 3 miles West Hullavington Police Station. Type:- Miles Master T8547. Damage:- Wrecked. Condition of occupants:- two fatal. R.A.F. Station Hullavington informed 19.00 hrs. Guard:- Police, relieved by Military. Station from which it came:- Hullavington. 23.22 (time report received) The location is still a bit fuzzy - Manor Farm is North of Hullavington Village and does not adjoin the Fosse Way - there are several old quarries next to the Fosse Way 2 miles west of the village. ....Read More.Malmesburyman on 29th July 2009 09:50:34
