405 Squadron RCAFTwo questions about dates for 405 Squadron RCAF. 'Bomber Squadrons of the RAF' by Philip Moyes and both state that 405 Squadron moved from Pocklington to Topcliffe in August 1941. However, Flt Lt T A Piddington RCAF writing in 'The Roundel' in 1950 states that the move was in August 1942. I guess that the 1941 date is correct but wondered if someone could confirm this. CWGC shows that Sgt Alan Danby RAFVR of 405 Squadron lost his life on 27th June 1942. He was not recovered and his name is recorded on the Runnymeade Memorial. This was while flying in Halifax W1175. 'The Bomber Command War Diaries' by Middlebrook and Everitt does not show any losses of Halifaxes on that day or the days either side. Does anyone have any information about this? ....Read More.drailton on 6th October 2013 01:03:34
