Halifax II W7928 11/1942 - 2/1945I am trying to trace the movements of W7928 Halifax II written off February 1945 while on 1669 HCU. W7928 was part of a batch of 34, (W7906W7939) built by Handley-Page in late 1942. Alas, the RAF Museum can’t help me so I have looked at other ways to trace its movements. 9 aircraft survived, though may have been written off before wars end. 25 aircraft were lost on Ops during 11/1942 - 6/1943. Nearly 75% W7906 lost St Nazaire, 3/43, 35 Sqn W7907 lost Berlin, 3/43, 35 Sqn W7909 lost Bochum, 6/43, 10 Sqn, W7911 lost Mannheim, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7913 lost Frankfurt, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7914 lost Stuttgart, 11/42, 102 Sqn W7915 lost Turin, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7916 lost Frankfurt, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7918 lost Dusseldorf, 1/43, 102 Sqn, W7919 lost Cologne, 2/43, 102 Sqn W7921 lost Hamburg, 2/43, 102 Sqn W7923 lost Hamburg, 2/43, 35 Sqn W7924 lost Mannheim, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7925 lost Gardening, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7926 lost Dortmund, 5/43, 78 Sqn W7928 lost Written Off, 2/45, 1699 HCU W7929 lost Essen, 5/43, 78 Sqn W7930 lost Mannheim, 6/43, 78 Sqn W7931 lost Duisberg, 3/43, 78 Sqn W7932 lost Dusseldorf, 6/43, 78 Sqn W7933 lost Turin, 12/42, 102 Sqn W7934 lost Wuppertal, 5/43, 102 Sqn W7935 lost Bochum, 5/43, 102 Sqn W7937 lost Essen, 4/43, 78 Sqn W7938 lost Hamburg, 2/43, 78 Sqn W7939 lost Berlin, 3/43, 78 Sqn A long shot, but W7928 may well have started on 78 or 102 Squadrons. If anyone has the ORBs or other documents for 78 & 102 1942-1944, please could you check to see when W7928 was taken on and taken off? Thank you.
