|Crewing of O.T.U. Wellingtons||Just to follow on from Alan Clark's email about additional crew on board O.T.U. aircraft. When Wellington X3171 crashed near Bellingham, Northumberland on 1st March 1943, it had the following crew:
1 x pilot
1 x navigator
1 x wireless/air gunner
1 x air gunner
2 x bomb aimer
I'd be interested in any comments on the two bomb aimers!

|What were families told?||I contacted three families of those killed in Wellington X3171 and all three were told that they were killed returning from a mission to Germany (all told different cities as the target).
The aircraft however crashed during a cross-country training exercise over Northumberland.
Other families I have been in touch with were either told nothing at all or given inaccurate information, this goes for Post War crashes too.

|410916 - Unaccounted airmen - 16-9-1941||John,
Hesitate to accept this AHB answer. X3171 was 15 OTU, lost 1-3-1943. Moreover Sgt JACOBS was listed as DOAS and his death registered at Salisbury (what was in Wiltshire ?).
