POW and Evaders Database WorkPeter (??????) Sgt Harry Jattes - this may be Sgt. Harry JAMES of Shipley, who was reported missing in the Yorkshire Evening Post of April 22nd 1942. WO416 has a discrepancy with his date of birth - it gives his D.o.B. as June 22nd 1901, London, and I think he's on the 1939 Register at Shipley with D.o.B. July 22nd 1913. Regards Simon
hi I can add to this story . Flight sergeant Harry James 1378221 was my grandad. Born Shipley in 1913. Moved to Doncaster before the war and met my grandma etc etc. Unfortunately for grandad after crashing on a raid to Essen, then spending 3 years in stalagluft 1 he came home , returned to work on the railways and was killed by a train in 1945/1946 (when my mother was 3 it’s a bit sketchy) I’ll add a photo when I go up to my mums. Added : also should mention he was a tail gunner on the Wellington and I wonder if the aircraft crashed nose first hence why he was the only survivor ....Read More.Biscuit1471 on 2nd June 2021 03:36:04
