Missing details on several Bomber Command losses, 7-8 September 1941Dear all, I am looking for any details on the crash location, time of loss and cause of loss of the following Bomber Command aicraft that failed to return from the 7-8 September 1941 Berlin raid. I do of course have the details as given in Bill Chorley's 1941 volume on Bomber Command losses: 12 Sqn Wellington W5598 12 Sqn Wellington Z8328 51 Sqn Whitley Z6744 58 Sqn Whitley Z6836 58 Sqn Whitley Z6947 149 Sqn Wellington X9705 214 Sqn Wellington R1784 405 Sqn Wellington W5521 Reason for asking is that I have four Whitleys claimed shot down by German night fighters, which I have not been able to match to actual Bomber Command losses. One of these claims may concern a Wellington loss: Lt. Rudolf Altendorf: 5 2./NJG3 Whitley N. Berlin 00.32 Lt. Ludolf Schmitz: 2 3./NJG1 Whitley 500 m. W. Neuenkirchen, NE Grevenbroich 00.47 Lt. Rudolf Altendorf: 6 2./NJG3 Whitley N. Berlin 01.00 Uffz. Wolfgang Brendel: 1 3./NJG3 Whitley Leissnitz 01.36 Cheers and thanks for any details Theo ....Read More.Theo Boiten on 4th October 2012 03:09:47

Missing details on several Bomber Command losses, 7-8 September 1941Dear all, One of the Whitley crew members that were killed on the 7/8 September 1941 Berlin raid was Sgt. H.B. Clark RCAF, of 51 Sqn Whitley Z6744. Does any of the RCAF experts have info on the loss of this airman and his aircraft from the RCAF file of Sgt. Clark? Also: four crew members of 58 Sqn Whitley Z6947 were taken PoW (P/O F.R. Wilbraham, and Sgts B.J. Kemp, L.E. Proctor, and J. Ford). Can anyone provide details on the loss of this a/c and crew from the questionnaires of these airmen? Cheers and thanks for any details, Theo ....Read More.Theo Boiten on 7th October 2012 06:24:10
