He was killed on active service on 11th June 1940, age 25. (It is probable that Sergeant Craven was killed on board a fairey Battle aircraft which took off from RAF Benson on 11th June 1940. The aircraft suffered an engine failure on a cross-country training flight and crashed near the airfield.) Fairey battle K9463 12.
