P/O 177358 William Sumner and Crew ( Hudson?)Hello everyone, I would appreciate a little help with this one as have hit a brick wall with P/O William Sumner as part of my research for "The Airmen Of West Lancs Roll of Honour." Local information suggests he was lost when a Coastal Command Hudson suffered engine failure but have been unable to confirm this. P/O Sumner is interred in the Madras (Chennai) War Cemetery alongside the following: P/O 177358 William Sumner (21) RAFVR (Pilot) of Bickerstaffe, Lancs. W/O R/127735 Edwin William Burrows (21) RCAF (Pilot) of Michigan, USA. P/O 184730 Thomas Quinn (35) RAFVR (Wop/ag) of Bispham, Lancs. W/O 1261950 Fred Hooper (29) RAFVR (Nav / BA) ….Poss Observer… of Thornton Heath, Surrey Sgt 1504896 William Boyes (22) RAFVR (Nav / BA) ….Poss Observer… of Bolton, Lancs. L/A 1091728 Harry K Jones (22) RAFVR Poss ground technician on board, of Lytham St Annes, Lancs. I am assuming this is a complete crew plus a ground technician, as they lie alongside each other and their DOD's are all the same, However, the closest I can get is a possible 357 Sqdn sortie out of RAF Red Hills Lake, any background on this loss from you Far East experts would be much appreciated! Of course, due credit given for any information in the write up of the roll of honour. Thanks in advance of your help. Alan. ....Read More.Alan B (West Lancs) on 30th April 2017 11:32:37
