Obits (Part One)"Airforce", the magazine of the Air Force Assocoation of Canada, routinely publishes brief obituary notices of members, most of them Second World War. The notices for 1979 through to early 1991 are listed below. I have compiled it for my own purposes (determining persons who have been deceased 20 years or more, making it possible to examine their service files). However, it may be useful to others. It is obvious that the list is a partial one (barely more than 1,000 names), and the entries are equally incomplete, as will seen from what appears below. For example, the entry for Gordon L. Anderson shows his date of death only as "810000", meaning that the magazine annouced his death as occuring sometime in 1981, but with no specific date. To further explain, the list shows name (as printed in the magazine, sometimes only with initials), rank (when indicated), date of death (850523 = 23 May 1985) and the relevant issue of "Airforce" reporting the death (Airforce 8606 inidicates the June 1986 issue - actually, because it is a quarterly, the April-May-June issue. Where I have been able to indicate some other information (such as a decoration or former POW status) I have done so. To make this more manageable on the Board, I have split it into two parts. E.A. Cummings, killed 3-9-39Just to update. A memorial cairn was unveiled on Bennachie on 2nd September 2012 to commemorate the crew of Wallace K6028, PO Ellard Cummings and LAC Ronald Stewart. It also commemorates the pilot of an RAF Meteor pilot, JB Lightfoot who died on the same hill in 1952. The poignant ceremony took place on the hillside of Bennachie, between the two crash sites, in bright sunshine with a light breeze and was attended by around 80 people including relatives of all the airmen. A little more about it can be read here http://www.bailiesofbennachie.co.uk/news/2012/9/4/bennachie-air-crash-memorial-cairn.html Remembered and not forgotten.
